The reef controlled sandy foreland at the western end of Chiton Rocks beach, forms the eastern boundary of a 900 m long beach (158) that terminates at the usually closed mouth of the small Hindmarsh River, more a creek than river. Waves average less than 1 m and maintain a narrow continuous bar, usually free of rips. The beach is backed by a 50 m wide scrubby reserve, then residential houses, with a reserve along the eastern side of the river mouth.
