South of Elliott Heads is a 60 km long series of sandy beaches and large inlets sweeping down to the rocks of Point Vernon. Much of the coast is undeveloped, with only three small settlements at Woodgate, Burrum Heads and Toogoom. The first two beaches extend for 18 km south of the heads. The small creek maintains a relatively dynamic mouth, which migrates over a 500 m long section of coast. Once established, the southern beach (1513) then continues for 13.7 km to the larger Theodolite Creek mouth. There is no development along this beach, with only 4WD access to the shore and a few fishing shacks. The beach consists of a steep high tide beach fronted by a continuous low tide bar, which merges with 1 km wide tidal shoals as it approaches Theodolite Creek.
