Congwong Bay is located on the northern entrance to Botany Bay adjacent to La Perouse, one of Sydney's most historic and interesting areas. The 500 m wide bay is bordered by Henry Head to the east and Bare Island in the west, and faces southwest across the 1 km wide entrance to Botany Bay. The two beaches are located at either side of the bay, separated by 200 m of rocky shore and both within the Botany Bay National Park. There is road and bus access to the western end of the bay with foot access to the beaches. The eastern beach (NSW 331) is a 140 m long reflective beach that faces west towards Bare Island. Waves average less than 1 m and surge up the steep beach face. It is backed by densely vegetated slopes rising to 40 m, with only foot access to the beach. The western beach (NSW 332) is located 200 m to the west and is a curving 160 m long southwest-facing reflective beach with low ocean swell surging up the usually cusped beach face (Fig. 4.250). It is backed by a vegetated foredune, with the Bunnerong road located 50 m west of the end of the beach and a walking tracks down to the beach.
